Fitted Bedrooms Long Eaton

Three miles from our showroom, which in practice means a survey without a three-week wait and a fitter who is not travelling an hour each way.

A fitted bedroom is the whole room drawn as one piece — hanging, drawers, a dressing area and the bedside designed together rather than four things bought separately and pushed against the nearest wall.

What it usually includes

Drawers. The most under-ordered part of every bedroom. Deep ones for jumpers and spare bedding, shallow ones for everything that currently lives on a chair. Most people ask for two and want four by the time it is in.

A dressing area. Worktop, knee space, mirror. It needs less width than people think — 900mm works — but it needs a socket at the right height and light from the front. Downlights directly overhead put your own face in shadow, which is the commonest complaint about bedroom lighting and the easiest thing to design out.

Bedside and over-bed. In the narrower back bedrooms here, building the bedsides in and bridging over the headboard recovers storage nothing freestanding can reach.

Hanging. Covered in more detail on our fitted wardrobes in Long Eaton page.

The housing

The lace-town terraces have generous ceiling heights for the size of the rooms, which is the opportunity — a freestanding wardrobe stops about a metre short of the ceiling and leaves the rest as dead air. Floor-to-ceiling units take it back as a full extra shelf.

They also have a chimney breast with two unequal alcoves, and a box room over the stairs that standard furniture cannot use. A fitted run with sideways hanging turns that box room into a usable single bedroom.

The semis toward Sawley and Wilsthorpe have bay windows in the front bedroom and better proportions throughout. These take a full dressing area comfortably, and the bay usually takes a low seat-height unit beneath the window.

Already-extended houses — common here — often have an odd back bedroom above the extension, with a step in the wall or a section of lower ceiling. Those are the rooms where building to the room genuinely earns its money.

The survey is the job

Older Long Eaton bedrooms are rarely square. Walls bow, floors run out of level towards the front of the house, and skirting and picture rails interrupt what would otherwise be a clean run.

Fitted furniture gets scribed to whatever is actually there, which is why the survey takes longer than people expect and why photographs of somebody else’s room tell you very little about yours.

Long Eaton's dense Victorian terraces and interwar semis give small-to-moderate bedrooms with reasonable ceiling height, good conditions for fitted furniture, which turns unusable height into storage.

It is also the closest town to the showroom, so a re-measure or a colour check is a ten-minute trip rather than a scheduling exercise.

Hanging rails, drawers, shelving and shoe storage in the proportions you actually need, rather than a standard split. Long hang around 1.5 metres, short hang around 1 metre, and drawers sized for what they will hold.

Getting the internals right is what makes a fitted wardrobe better than a freestanding one. The doors are only what you see.

Long Eaton is one of only two places where we cover kitchens, bathrooms, fitted bedrooms and wardrobes, so a whole-house project can be planned in a single visit.

What happens next

Call 0115 877 7595 or come to the showroom on Derby Road, Stapleford, NG9 7AD — ten minutes away.

We will come and measure, draw the room properly, and give you a price against a plan rather than a guess. There is a fitted bedroom on display in the meantime, which is worth ten minutes if you want to see how the drawers run and how the doors sit before committing to anything.
