Bathrooms Papplewick
Papplewick is a village of a few hundred people north of Nottingham, best known for its Victorian pumping station, with period stone and brick property around a historic core and limited later development.

Nothing in this housing was built with a bathroom in the plan. Every one is a conversion of something else — a box room, part of a bedroom, occasionally the end of a landing — which is why so few of them are a workable shape.
Fitted furniture is the practical answer, because it follows walls that are not straight rather than sitting against them with a filler panel covering the gap. In a small room that matters twice over, since nothing is lost to dead space.
Ceiling heights vary from room to room in these buildings, and where they are generous there is usually a great deal of unused wall above a standard vanity. Building up into it turns a basin unit into real storage.

Stone buildings resist the things a modern bathroom wants to do, chased services, flat tiled surfaces, fixings into a true wall. The usual answer is a stud lining wall carrying the services, which gives a flat surface without cutting into the building.
Given the historic core and the pumping station, parts of the village are very likely to sit within a conservation area — though that should be confirmed for a specific address rather than assumed.
Where it applies, external changes such as a new extract vent on a visible elevation can need consent from Gedling Borough Council. It rarely stops a bathroom; it usually moves the vent.
