Bathrooms Arnold
Arnold is large enough to contain most of the housing types in the county, and its bathrooms follow the same pattern — a Victorian core, a great deal of interwar and postwar semi-detached housing around it, and newer estates beyond that.

The interwar and postwar semis
This is the bulk of Arnold, and the bathrooms are generally good ones to work with: square, upstairs, part of the original build, and properly proportioned. Bath under the window, basin and WC on the internal wall, and usually room to do something more interesting than a like-for-like swap.
The most common change is dropping the bath for a walk-in shower, or splitting the room so both fit. Where there is a separate WC next door — very common in this stock — knocking the two together is often the single best move available, and it is usually a stud wall rather than anything structural.
Worth checking before you plan around it: the airing cupboard in these houses frequently backs onto the bathroom and takes a chunk of the useful wall. It can sometimes be reduced or moved once the system is understood.
Modern & Traditional Bathrooms
Arnold, Nottingham
Most of Arnold is interwar and postwar semi-detached housing, and the bathrooms in it share a layout: upstairs, square, part of the original build, and very often with a separate WC through a second door alongside.
Knocking those two rooms into one is the single best improvement available in this stock, and the wall between them is almost always a stud partition rather than anything structural. It turns two cramped rooms into one that will take a proper shower enclosure and a vanity unit with real storage.
A good proportion of these houses still run gravity-fed hot water from a cylinder and a loft tank. That gives low pressure at the shower, and it is the reason a mixer that performs beautifully in a showroom can disappoint at home.
It is a solvable problem — a pump, or a change to an unvented cylinder — but it is a decision to take before choosing a shower, not after.

The older terraces
Around the original village core there are Victorian terraces with the bathroom added later over the rear outrigger — narrow, one external wall, small window over the yard.
Fitted furniture down the longer wall with the shower at the far end is what works in that shape. The room is also usually the coldest in the house, being an addition, which makes ventilation and insulation more important here than the tiling choice.
Newer estates
Regular rooms, straight walls, family bathroom plus en-suite. Wall-hung furniture suits these and looks right, with the floor running underneath making a modest room feel larger. It needs a frame fixed back to something structural — in a stud wall, opening it up for noggins.
En-suites are the harder job: small, often internal, no window. Extraction on a run-on timer ducted to an outside wall is what keeps them pleasant, and ducting into a loft void is not a substitute.

Traditional: Chiltern and Brecon. Chiltern Hunter Green and Brecon Marine Blue suit the older terraced bathrooms where light is limited; Brecon Basalt Mist is the quieter choice.
Modern: Levanto Graphite and Selter Slate at the darker end, Amaro White Gloss and Selter Lagoon Mist brighter, Pentland Shale between. Bowland Blueberry and Bowland Seabreeze are worth seeing in person — they photograph flatter than they are.

Traditional Bathroom Furniture
Water pressure. A lot of the interwar and postwar housing in Arnold is still on a gravity-fed system with the cold tank in the loft. Pressure at the shower head then depends on how far it sits below that tank, which is why first-floor showers so often deliver less than expected regardless of the shower itself. The answer might be a pump, a different shower, or a change to the system — all considerably cheaper decided before the tiling than after it.
