Kitchens Sutton in Ashfield
Sutton grew on coal and textiles, and the housing those industries built is what decides most kitchens in the town — small terraced kitchens near the centre, larger but plain estate kitchens on the postwar stock, and open-plan space on the newer private development.

Many of these are narrower, so it becomes a single full run down the longer wall — tall units at one end taking the oven and fridge, sink under the window — with a shallower run or open shelving opposite.

Where the back door swings into the room it claims the corner it opens into, and that corner is normally the only spot a tall cupboard or boiler could have occupied. Worth settling whether it stays.
These older houses are frequently solid brick rather than cavity, which matters less in a kitchen than a bathroom but does affect where you would put a cold run of units and whether an external wall needs attention before tiling.

The large estates built for the collieries have square, separate kitchens — around three metres by three, door to the hall, door to the garden, dining room next door.
The standard project here is opening the two rooms into one. That wall is often load-bearing, so it means a steel and building control involvement through Ashfield District Council. It is a real cost and belongs in the budget from the start rather than surfacing halfway through.
Done, it gives the run length for a galley plus a peninsula or a small island, which is usually what people had in mind.
The extensive postwar estate housing and the later private development on the edges of the town give you square rooms, level floors and a realistic route to open-plan.
Removing the wall to the dining room is the usual project, and it is structural, building control through Ashfield District Council, and a steel to carry the opening.

Newer private housing
Higher ceilings, larger glazing, regular rooms, and often already open plan. These take an island comfortably, and they are where a vented cooktop earns its cost — extraction built into the hob instead of a canopy over the island, so nothing hangs in the sightline. We fit Neff appliances, including the venting hobs.
Doors and colour
Painted shaker is where most kitchens here end up.
In the terraced kitchens, where windows are small and often face a yard, Colbeck Heritage Green and Georgian Thicket keep their depth where a pale finish goes flat. In the brighter estate and newer housing, Denton Porcelain Cashmere and Clarkwell Light Grey Graphite both work well.
Zagen and Cameo cover the handleless end. Warwick is the in-frame range, with the door set inside the cabinet frame rather than on the face of it — the more traditional construction and the better fit for the older properties.
