Worth clearing up first: this is Shipley in Derbyshire, near Heanor and Shipley Country Park — not Shipley in West Yorkshire, which is a good deal larger and a long way from here.
It is a small former colliery settlement, and the housing is a mix of older brick property and postwar development. We fit bathrooms here and across the surrounding Amber Valley and Erewash villages from our showroom on Derby Road in Stapleford, six miles south, about sixteen minutes.

Shipley is a small settlement near the country park, with mixed older brick housing and postwar development.
The postwar stock is the easier starting point: regular upstairs bathrooms, often with a separate WC that can be combined into one usable room. The older brick housing tends to have the bathroom in a rear addition with one cold external wall and limited ventilation.
A bathroom on a solid external wall is the coldest room in the house, and moisture condenses on the coldest surface available. That is usually the wall opposite the window, which is where the paint lifts first.
Insulated backer board behind the tiling and properly ducted extraction address it together. Doing one without the other rarely works.

The older brick housing
Bathrooms in this stock were added later rather than built in, which is why so many of them are in odd positions — over a rear outrigger, carved out of a box room, or squeezed onto a half landing.
Fitted furniture works better than a standard suite in those rooms because it can follow what the walls actually do. Where the room is genuinely awkward — a boxed-in soil stack, a chimney breast, a sloping section of ceiling — building to the room is the only way to use the space rather than work round it.
Much of the pre-war stock in this area is solid brick rather than cavity, so a bathroom on an external wall runs colder and shows condensation earlier. Insulated backer board behind the tiling is usually worth including, and it is far cheaper done during than retrofitted.
Ventilation is the other constant. Extraction ducted properly to the outside, on a run-on timer. Ducting into a loft void is not a solution and it is still the most common thing we find wrong.

Squarer bathrooms upstairs, regular walls, straightforward plumbing. Where there is a separate WC next door, knocking the two together is usually the best single improvement available and is generally a stud wall rather than anything structural.
