Bathrooms Heanor
Heanor sits on high ground above the Erewash valley, a former mining town of around seventeen thousand, with Victorian terraces, interwar semis and a substantial amount of postwar council-built housing, much of it now privately owned.
We fit bathrooms across the town from our showroom on Derby Road in Stapleford, seven miles south, about eighteen minutes.
The terraces
The bathroom was added later in almost all of them, over the rear outrigger — narrow, one external wall, a small window onto the yard, and the coldest room in the house because it was built on rather than built in.
Fitted furniture down the longer wall with the WC boxed into the run uses that shape far better than trying to place a conventional three-piece suite in it.
Much of the pre-war stock here is solid brick rather than cavity, so a bathroom on an external wall runs colder and shows condensation sooner than people expect. Insulated backer board behind the tiling is usually worth including, and it is considerably cheaper done during the work than retrofitted.

Heanor has Victorian terraces, interwar semis and a substantial stock of postwar council-built housing, much of it now privately owned.
The postwar stock is the most straightforward: square upstairs bathrooms, often with a separate WC alongside that can be combined into one properly usable room. The Victorian terraces are the harder job, with the bathroom typically in a cold rear addition.
Much of the older stock is solid brick, so an external bathroom wall runs cold and shows condensation before anything else does — usually on the wall opposite the window.
Insulated backer board behind the tiling addresses it during the work at modest cost. Retrofitting the same thing later means stripping the tiling off again.
Heanor falls under Amber Valley Borough Council. The showroom at Derby Road, Stapleford is about eighteen minutes away.

The postwar estate housing
Squarer bathrooms upstairs, part of the original build, better proportioned than the terraces. Where there is a separate WC next door — very common in this stock — knocking the two together is the single best improvement available and is generally a stud wall rather than anything structural.
The airing cupboard usually backs onto the bathroom and takes a stretch of useful wall. Once the heating system is understood it can sometimes be reduced or moved.

Ventilation
The thing most worth getting right in both. Extraction ducted properly to the outside on a run-on timer, or the moisture goes into the plaster and the paint lifts within two winters — usually on the wall furthest from the window.
An extractor ducted into a loft void does nothing at all, and it remains the most common fault we come across in bathrooms of this age.
