The villas near the centre of Radcliffe have generous proportions and good ceiling height, which gives a bathroom options that a smaller house does not.
Height in particular is usually wasted. It allows a full-height tiled enclosure without the boxed-in feeling of a lower room, and tall storage above a vanity where most bathrooms have none. In the larger villas there is often room to separate bath and shower entirely.
A freestanding cast-iron bath is a real proposition in a house like this, and it is also a serious load — the bath alone can weigh well over 100kg before it is filled.

The villas and period houses
These are generous rooms by village standards, often with a bathroom that was a bedroom originally, which means proper proportions and a window in a sensible place.
They also have the usual period issues: walls that are not straight, floors that have moved, and considerable unused height above a standard vanity. Fitted furniture is scribed to what the wall actually does, and building up into the spare height turns a basin unit into genuine storage.
If a cast-iron or freestanding bath is on the list, floor structure is worth checking first. Full of water and a person it is a serious point load, and older joists frequently want looking at before anything is ordered.

Interwar, postwar and the newer estates
Square bathrooms upstairs, regular walls, straightforward plumbing. Where there is a separate WC next door — common in the interwar stock — knocking the two together is usually the single best move available, and it is generally a stud wall rather than anything structural.
The newer estates have a family bathroom plus an en-suite. En-suites are the harder job: small, often internal with no window, and ventilation decides whether they stay pleasant. An extractor on a run-on timer ducted to an outside wall, not into a loft void.
