Ironstone and thick brick walls are hard to chase services into, and the rooms are irregular. A stud wall built in front of the original, carrying the services in the void, is frequently the most practical solution, and it gives a flat, true surface to tile against.
Village properties often run gravity-fed hot water, and mains pressure can be lower than a town’s. Both limit what a shower will do.
Establishing the existing system is the first question, not the last. The fix — a pump, or an unvented cylinder — is straightforward, but it belongs in the plan and the budget from the start.

Nothing here was built with plumbing in the plan. Every bathroom is a conversion of something else, which is why so few of them are a workable shape and why standard-sized furniture so often needs a filler panel at one end.
Fitted furniture is scribed to what the wall actually does. In a small room that matters twice over, because nothing is lost to dead space, and in ironstone and brick property the walls are rarely anywhere near straight.

What comes up most often
Ventilation. Solid walls, small original windows, and no natural air movement once modern glazing is fitted. Extraction ducted properly to the outside on a run-on timer, or the moisture goes into the plaster and the paint lifts within two winters. Ducting into a loft void does nothing.
Consent. In a village of this age, listed status is common. Where a property is listed, alterations affecting the fabric can need consent from Rushcliffe Borough Council, including a new extract vent through a visible elevation. It rarely stops a bathroom; it regularly changes where the extraction runs.
Water supply. Much of the older property out here is gravity-fed from a tank in the loft, so pressure at the shower head depends on how far below it the shower sits. First-floor showers often underdeliver as a result, whatever is on the wall. Worth establishing before anything is chosen.
Floor structure, if a cast-iron or freestanding bath is under consideration. Full of water and a person it is a serious point load and older joists frequently want checking first.
