Ventilation is the thing that decides whether a bathroom in a solid-walled cottage stays sound. Extraction ducted properly to the outside, on a run-on timer. Without it the plaster takes the moisture and the paint lifts within a couple of winters.

Regular rooms, straight walls, family bathroom plus en-suite in most cases. Wall-hung furniture suits these, with the floor running underneath making the room feel more open — and it needs a frame fixed back to something structural, which in a stud wall means opening it up for noggins.
